WHEREAS neurodiversity shall here be considered to include all mental and psychological conditions,
WHEREAS there is a significant overlap between the neurodiverse and youth communities,
WHEREAS many neurodiverse people are forcibly treated over their own objection,
WHEREAS such treatments are at times unproven and risky, and
WHEREAS we have already included freedom in medical treatment in our Declaration of Principles,
AMERICANS FOR A SOCIETY FREE FROM AGE RESTRICTIONS,
CONDEMN involuntary mental and psychological treatments, where involuntary treatments are those given without informed consent of the individual being treated,
DEMAND that insurance companies refuse to fund involuntary treatment for non-consenting neurodiverse youth,
FURTHER DEMAND that legislatures repeal laws requiring funding for the same or refrain from passing such laws,
REGISTER DISGUST that such involuntary treatment is considered right, moral, or just,
REPUDIATE the idea that without such treatments a neurodiverse person can never be a true person,
ENCOURAGE any person threatened with involuntary treatment to share their story with us for anonymous distribution, and
ADVOCATE that legislatures and physicians work together to promote self-directed courses of treatment and life choices for neurodiverse individuals.
